COLUMBIANA -- Although they don't plan to build anything soon, Crestview school officials are planning funding for the district's next construction project.
Superintendent John Dilling said the board of education plans to participate in the Ohio School Facilities Commission expedited program.
Normally, the OSFC provides funding for construction projects after a school district's residents vote to allow school officials to borrow money for a portion of the construction costs.
Dilling said under the expedited program, however, school officials can secure funding and interest rates even though a building project may be several years away.
Anticipated project
Dilling said the district's next construction project will likely be the addition of classrooms at the elementary school. School officials expanded the kindergarten program this year, adding a fourth classroom. Previously kindergarten sessions were offered all day every other day and taught by two teachers.
The district completed a building project in 1996 funded mostly by the OSFC. The state provided $9.5 million, and the district borrowed about $3 million.
The project included construction of a new high school and elementary school. The former high school was converted to a middle school.
The former elementary building in New Waterford and the Fairfield School in Fairfield Township were then sold.
