Senior Kristy Fullerman of Canfield took first place in dramatic interpretation and fifth place in prose as she competed with the Malone Forensics Team at a recent speech tournament at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. The team, competing against 14 other institutions, won a total of six awards.
Fullerman also captured a first-place award in prose interpretation and third place in dramatic interpretation at Marietta College's 54th Annual Wilcox Tournament. Capturing third in the prose event was junior Lonette Clinkscale of Boardman; Clinkscale also was part of a team that won second place in duo interpretation. Overall, the Malone team received 11 trophies.
At an Otterbein College competition, Fullerman took fourth place in the competitive prose category. Clinkscale and a partner earned third place in duo interpretation.
In another tournament at the University of Akron, Clinksale and Matthew Fowler of Hanoverton were members of a group that took third place in the team category.
GROVE CITY COLLEGE, Grove City, Pa.
Freshman Leah Acker of Mercer, Pa., finished first overall during the recent annual Bloomsburg University Mad Hatter Forensics Tournament, as well as advancing to the final rounds of an impromptu speaking contest, where she placed second overall in a field of 59.
In addition, Acker and senior Meredith Deichler of Lisbon captured the third-place overall trophy.
They are two local students on the college's Speech and Debate Team, which placed fifth out of 17 schools in a team sweepstakes competition and fourth overall in the Pi Kappa Delta Forensics Honorary Division. Other local students competing were senior Mandy Tharpe of New Castle, Pa., and sophomore Jennifer Allison of Grove City, Pa.

Daniela DiRupo, a junior business administration major from Hermitage, was part of a team that won a cash prize for fourth place in the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) state competition in Philadelphia. Participating schools created a fictitious trucking company for which to form goals and develop strategies and financial statements. Teams also competed in a timed problem-solving activity.
DiRupo is the daughter of Aldo and Mary DiRupo.
Senior mathematics major Heather Klink of Hermitage was among 11 Westminster students to attend the Kappa Delta Pi International Convocation Conference in St. Louis. Kappa Delta Pi is an international education honor society restricted to the top 20 percent of students seeking teacher certification.
Attendees heard keynote speakers that included Alvin Law, Alfie Kohn and National Teacher of the Year Betsie Rogers and attended various workshop sessions.
Klink is a daughter of Thomas and Rhonda Klink and a graduate of Jamestown Area High School.
Several local students are among 24 selected to serve in various aspects on the executive committee of the 2004 Mock Convention, scheduled Feb. 5-6 in Memorial Fieldhouse. The student-run presidential nominating convention, a tradition at Westminster since 1936, has run every four years for the party out of power, with the exception of 1944.
Among those chosen are: senior political science and sociology-criminal justice major Kevin McCreary of Grove City, Pa., son of David and Lynn McCreary, graduate of Grove City Area High School, as a member of the executive committee and the physical arrangements subcommittee; junior political science major Zachary Warrender of Sharpsville, Pa., son of Brenda and Thomas Warrender, graduate of Sharpsville Area High School, as a member of the executive committee and the public relations subcommittee; senior political science major Tara Billock of Cortland, daughter of John and Dorothy Billock, graduate of Lakeview High School, as a member of the executive committee and the platform subcommittee; senior political science major Jacqueline Pusztay, daughter of Steven and Robin Pusztay, graduate of Salem High School, as a member of the executive committee and the credentials subcommittee; junior political science major Andrea Ceplecci of Hubbard, daughter of Terry Ceplecci, graduate of Hubbard High School, as secretary of the executive committee; senior political science major Nicholas Modarelli of Hubbard, son of Nicholas and Marianne Modarelli, graduate of Hubbard High School, as a member of the executive committee and the platform subcommittee; junior political science and public relations major Mary Huebert of North Lima, daughter of John and Melva Huebert, graduate of South Range High School, as a member of the executive committee and the public relations subcommittee; junior political science major Heidi Kimmel of Poland, daughter of Robert and Bonnie Kimmel, graduate of Poland Seminary High School, as a member of the executive committee and the credentials subcommittee; sophomore political science major Nawal Rajeh of Youngstown, daughter of Ghassan and Soumaya Rajeh, graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, as a member of the executive committee and the platform subcommittee.
