GIRLS BASKETBALL Early lead lifts Geneva to win over Howland

HOWLAND -- The Howland High girls basketball team outscored a taller Geneva team, 14-7, in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as the host Tigers fell short, 46-43, in Saturday's opener for both teams.
Ana Cvengros, a 5-8 junior center who played JV ball last season, had a career-high 18 points for Howland while junior Sara Krezeczowski added 10 points.
The 5-4 Krezeczowski is Howland's only letterwinner from last year.
Cvengros also had seven of 26 rebounds for the winners, whose turnover ratio was two-to-one: 31 to 15.
For Geneva, Alexis Korovich had 18 points while 6-2 post player Amy Kase added 12 points and nine of the Eagles' 26 rebounds. Six-foot Sara Parker had two points.
Ursuline 104, Wilson 8
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sophomore Tyra Grant scored a career-high 29 points as Ursuline (1-0) put three players in double figures.
Courtney Davidson added eight points and 18 assists and Rebecca Slattery had 13 points and six rebounds for the Irish. Cierra Bennett added 10 points.
Liberty 49, Struthers 31
LIBERTY -- Senior Brittny Humphries had 16 points and 11 rebounds while teammate Cherie Austin added 14 points as the Leopards won their opener.
Liberty took a 23-12 lead at halftime en route to its win.
Five-foot-10 Lena Esmail had 15 blocks for the winners while Allison Ginnetti's nine points paced Struthers.
Sebring 63, Campbell 18
CAMPBELL -- Nicole Amabeli and Rachel Hawkins each scored 11 points while Alicea Eglie and Ashley Amabeli added 10 apiece, to lead Sebring in the season opener for both schools.
Erica Eaton chipped in with eight points for the Trojans, who jumped to a 20-5 first-period advantage and led by 37-9 at the half.
Kristin Grachanis had five points for Campbell.
Heritage Christian 52, Yo. Christian 39
YOUNGSTOWN -- Heritage Christian (1-0) built a 27-22 lead by halftime, then put the contest away with a 12-4 surge in the final period.
Alie Campbell sparked the winners with 16 points. Novelle Billington added 13 points and Kris Pricehad 11.
Mallory Diaz led the Eagles (0-1) with 12 points. Rachel Coristin had 10.
Badger 55, Neshannock 46
REYNOLDS, Pa. -- Christine Miller fired in 20 points and Tessa Bonar added 14 and grabbed six rebounds as Badger won consolation in the Reynolds Holiday tournament.
Neshannock (0-2) was led by Andrea Figuly with 15 points and Kelly Preston had 12.
Greenville 62, West Middlesex 31
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Aggressive defense and balance scoring were keys as Greenville doubled up on West Middlesex in the Trojans' opener.
Rachel Cascio had 16 points, Kristin Skelley 15 and Megan Szewczyk and Allyson Blaschak 10 apiece for Greenville. Defensively, Cascio had 12 steals while Lauren Kremm swiped the ball six times. Skelley had six rebounds.
For West Middlesex (1-0), Dana Macchia had 18 points and 10 rebounds while Katie Repko added 10 points.
