MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) -- Russ Michna passed for 375 yards and two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass, and Justin Langan's fifth field goal lifted Western Illinois to a 43-40 double-overtime victory over Montana in the first round of the Division I-AA playoffs.
Langan kicked field goals of 31, 26, 46, 25 and hit a 23-yarder in the second overtime for No. 10 Western Illinois (9-3), which meets Colgate (13-0) next Saturday in the quarterfinals. Fourth-seeded Colgate beat UMass 19-7.
Chris Snyder made four field goals for Montana (9-4), and set a I-AA career scoring record, but his fifth field goal attempt was blocked after Langan made the score 43-40. Snyder also had four extra points and finished his career with 394 points. The old mark of 385 was set by Marty Zendejas, who played for Nevada from 1984-87.
Travis Glasford rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown for Western Illinois and hit Michna on a 4-yard halfback pass for a score. Glasford also caught four passes for 64 yards.
Justin Green rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown, Lex Hilliard rushed for 67 yards and another score and backup quarterback Jeff Disney passed for 92 yards and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jon Talmage to give Montana a 40-33 lead on the first possession of the first overtime.
Northern Illinois answered with a 25-yard TD pass from Michna to Jermaine High to send the game into a second overtime.
Montana quarterback Craig Ochs passed for 96 yards and ran for 39 yards, including a 13-yard TD run in the first quarter before leaving the game with a shoulder injury early in the fourth quarter with Montana trailing 30-27.
Snyder tied it up on a 21-yard field goal with 10:22 left in regulation and Glasford's fumble led to a 39-yard field goal by Snyder to put Montana up 33-30 with 4:29 remaining.
Langan kicked a 25-yard field goal with 1:09 remaining in regulation to tie the score at 33.
