LIBERTY -- A township gathering will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the township administration building. Pictures with Santa Claus are $3, and carriage rides are $1 per individual and $3 per family. The police department will conduct an open house, which will include holiday music by the Oblate Sisters of Villa Maria Teresa and refreshments provided by township trustees.
Middle school store
COLUMBIANA -- South Middle School will have its fourth annual Christmas store at the school from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8-12. Pupils will have the opportunity to shop for gifts for family and friends. Donations are still being accepted in the school guidance office. The public also is invited to bring in donations and to shop for gifts. All proceeds go to local charities.
Wine shop robbed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two masked men, one of them armed, robbed the Mahoning Wine Shoppe, 1681 Mahoning Ave., police said. The men entered the business through a rear door around 8:30 a.m. Saturday. One of them, armed with a chrome handgun, shoved a female clerk and ordered her to give him money from the register. After the clerk opened the register, the man grabbed money from it and fled with his partner. The men were described as being 19 to 20 years old. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. No injuries were reported.
Crash kills student athlete
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (AP) -- A 16-year-old varsity basketball player died in a car wreck while on his way to a tournament at Slippery Rock High School. Nick Daubenspeck, 16, of Harrisville, was a passenger in a pickup truck being driven by another student Friday when it went out of control and struck a utility pole. The driver suffered minor injuries. Daubenspeck was the eighth student from Slippery Rock High in the past two years to be killed in a car-related accident.
