PITTSBURGH Rucinsky scores twice to subdue Penguins
Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury lost his sixth consecutive decision.
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Martin Rucinsky had two goals and an assist to lead the New York Rangers to a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night.
Rucinsky, who has eight points in his last four games, cut to the net from the left circle and converted Alexei Kovalev's pass from behind the net to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead at 3:34 of the third period.
Lindros scores
Eric Lindros scored a goal for the second consecutive game just 3:29 later when he poked the puck past Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury after Fleury stopped a shot by Jan Hlavac.
Fleury, the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, turned 19 on Friday but lost his sixth consecutive decision.
New York's Jussi Markkanen made 20 saves to extend his unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).
Rucinsky also assisted on Brian Leetch's short-handed goal with 3:45 to play. Kovalev and linemate Bobby Holik each had two assists for the Rangers, who are unbeaten in four games (3-0-1) and have lost only once in seven games (3-1-3).
The Rangers did not get a shot on goal until the game was more than nine minutes old but wound up with the early lead. Kovalev, playing his first game in Pittsburgh since being traded from the Penguins last February, threw a cross-ice pass from the right corner to Rucinsky. He tapped the puck in at 14:56 of the first period for his sixth goal.
Kovalev has points in six consecutive games.
Rico Fata, one of the players acquired from the Rangers in the trade for Kovalev, scored his team-leading eighth goal at 8:17 of the period with a slap shot from the top of the right circle. The power-play goal came with Darius Kasparaitis in the penalty box for high-sticking Ryan Malone.
