Woman is killed as van, bus collide

CONFLUENCE, Pa. (AP) -- A Fayette County woman was killed and a 4-year-old girl injured when a van and a school bus from the Uniontown Area School District collided on Route 40.
The van driver, Tracy J. Robertson, 38, of Farmington, was killed when she was unable to stop her 1989 Dodge Caravan in time for a construction area and veered into the opposite lane, striking the bus head-on just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, state police said. Robertson wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from her vehicle, which didn't have an air bag.
The injured child was the daughter of bus driver Dana Jo Rishel, 32. Rishel wasn't hurt, but her daughter, whom police didn't name, was taken to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh where she was listed in fair condition Wednesday night.
The bus was heading to the A.J. McMullen School, but hadn't picked up any students before the crash, district officials said.
The highway was closed for about three hours near the border of Henry Clay and Wharton townships.
