ON THE TOUR A part of Canfield history

Homes on the Canfield Presbyterian Church holiday tour of homes are:
Mr. and Mrs. Brian Connelly, 251 Broad St. The home was built in 1802 by Gen. Elijah Wadsworth, who served with George Washington. The residence is the oldest frame house in Canfield and has served a variety of occupants, including the Masonic Hall, courthouse and jail when Canfield was the county seat.
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Arnaut, 7059 state Route 62 (Lisbon Street). The white farmhouse, built in 1810 by Edmund Prior Tanner, was originally a log house and was replaced in 1865 with a frame house, which later burned. The Tanners rebuilt in 1870. The Arnauts have restored the home and added a bedroom and family room. A barn, built in the 1940s, has a restored outhouse.
Bond House, 44 W. Main St. Elijah Bond built the structure in 1839 and lived there until 1914. In 1991 the Canfield Historical Society bought the property to serve as a meeting place, museum and archives storage. The parlor is restored in Greek revival and a bedroom in Victorian. Costumed docents will offer details on local history.
Mr. and Mrs. David Goddard, 222 S. Broad St. The home was built in the 1860s by Dr. Henry Hoffman, a constable who operated a livery stable and hot-air balloon show. At one time the residence was a boarding house with rates of one dollar a day. The Goddards bought the home in 1998 and restored it.
Mr. and Mrs. Jere Blaylock, 46 W. Main St. Built in 1902, the house has undergone various changes to its exterior. During the 1940s construction added the back third of the house including a garage and family room with a fireplace. The Blaylocks have lived there since 1985.
Mr. and Mrs. John Odle, 605 N. Briarcliff Drive. The center-hall saltbox was built in 1974 and is an authentic design for the pitch of the roofs and chimney. The entrance hall boasts an 18th-century English corner cabinet, while the dining room features an early 19th-century dining room suite. A collection of antique shore birds roosts in the family room.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hagy, 21 Meadow Court. This Cape Cod home built in 1996 is located on the highest point in Canfield. Stenciling adds interest to the master suite, and an open family room and kitchen are family favorites.
