Brookfield police targetunderage alcohol buyers
BROOKFIELD -- Township police will be working this weekend with local alcohol permit holders in an attempt to stop minors from buying alcohol, and adults from buying it for minors.
Cops In Shops will be going on today and Sunday. Undercover officers will be posing as employees of retail outlets to arrest offenders. Officers also will target those with fake IDs and other alcohol-related issues.
The program is funded through a grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
Man killed in crashin Shenango Township
MERCER, Pa. -- A 50-year-old Portage County, Ohio, man was killed in a one-vehicle accident Friday afternoon in Shenango Township. Pennsylvania State Police identified the victim as Jeffrey Shilling of Deerfield.
Police said Shilling's Dodge pickup truck went off state Route 80 into a creek. It was unclear whether Shilling, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was wearing a seat belt.
YSU art associationto hold arts, crafts sale
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State University Student Art Association's annual Holiday Fine Arts & amp; Crafts Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 6 and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 7 at the McDonough Museum of Art on the YSU campus.
Vendors include students, staff and alumni from the YSU art department.
This year, the Student Art Association will also host a Chinese auction. All proceeds will benefit the Student Art Association.

Toys for Tots collectionat state police barracks
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- New toys are being collected for Toys For Tots at the Pennsylvania State Police barracks on Pa. Route 18.
The U.S. Marine Corps will be giving the toys to disadvantaged children. All toys must be in unopened packaging.
Historical society planscovered dish dinner
FOWLER -- The township historical society will have its annual Christmas covered dish dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the township community center.
All members are asked to bring a dish and table service. Beverages will be provided.
Christmas tree lighting
CHAMPION -- A Christmas tree lighting and visit by Santa Claus will be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Champion and Champion Police Department Auxiliary from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the one-room schoolhouse near town hall.
Children are asked to bring an ornament to add to the tree.
Carols at public library
BRISTOL -- Mark Dershaw and Jim Stafford will perform traditional carols on mandolin and guitar at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Bristol Public Library.
A ventriloquism show by William Lisby for children under 12 will be put on 11 a.m. the same day.
