Rabbi hired in Sharon
SHARON, Pa. -- Daniel A. Roberts, rabbi emeritus of Temple Emanu El in University Heights, Ohio, has been hired as rabbi of Temple Beth Israel in Sharon. Rabbi Roberts said he's working under a one-year contract to handle services once a month and during the upcoming High Holy Days.
Rabbi Roberts has been involved with Temple Emanu El since 1972. He has participated in interfaith dialogue, including a coalition with Antioch Baptist Church to enhance black-Jewish understanding, and helped found "Summer Song," an annual choir concert representing different faiths. He also helped to found the Congregational/Community Institute of Adult Jewish Studies. He's been active in teen suicide prevention and is creating a grief resource center in Cleveland.
Bazaar at mosque
YOUNGSTOWN -- Hamara Bazaar will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Saturday at Masjid Al-Khair, 1670 Homewood Ave. Hamara is a word in Urdu, a language common in India and Pakistan, that means "our," as in "Our Bazaar." YOUNGSTOWN -- Many area churches will have rallies and other events, including:
UGrace Lutheran Church, Austintown, will have a rally day featuring a "Luther's Luau" with music and games from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 7. Worship is at 10:45 a.m.
UPrince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poland will have "Kingdom Day" worship at 10 a.m. Sept. 7 followed by a picnic and activities, including a petting zoo, pony rides, an inflatable slide and dancing. The guests will be the staff and residents of The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.
UFirst United Methodist Church of Mineral Ridge will have a rally day from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 7 with cotton candy, popcorn and carnival games.
UEmmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Georgetown will have its rally day starting with Sunday school at 9:15 a.m. Sept. 7 and worship at 10:30 a.m.
Southern gospel concertsoffered in local churches

Relief funds received
YOUNGSTOWN -- Catholic Charities USA's Disaster Response Office has sent $10,000 in disaster relief to both Catholic Charities of Youngstown and Catholic Charities of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Ind.
