Courtney L. Roth of Canfield, a senior majoring in early childhood education, received the Women's Auxiliary Scholarship for the 2003-04 academic year and also was chosen publicity chairperson for the Student Government Association and vice president of her senior class for this upcoming school year. Roth spent part of the past school year teaching on a Navajo reservation in Chinle, Ariz., as part of the university's education program, and was one of 200 students recognized for her academics, service and leadership at a recent awards convocation.A 2000 Canfield High School graduate, she is the daughter of Ward Sr. and Margaret Roth.
ALLEGHENY COLLEGE, Meadville, Pa.
Charlie Howe of Carlton, Pa., will spend his junior year studying in India and England after receiving the national competitive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. The program, coordinated through the U.S. State Department and the Institute of International Education, awarded 191 scholarships from 1,276 applications. Howe was awarded the maximum $5,000 amount.Howe, majoring in environmental studies and biology, leaves for India on Sept. 1 to participate in the Minnesota Studies in International Development Area Studies and Field Placement Program. He will then spend the spring semester at Lancaster University in England.
