Giles is happy
Brian Giles reported to the San Diego Padres Wednesday and got a warm welcome from teammates on a last-place club that already is readying for next season. "He kind of improves their lineup," Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez said. San Diego acquired Giles on Tuesday from Pittsburgh for left-hander Oliver Perez, a minor league outfielder and a player to be named. Giles batted third Wednesday, ahead of Phil Nevin and Ryan Klesko. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Padres' 10-2 win over the Diamondbacks. More baseball, C5.
