Events mark 200th year for Hubbard church
HUBBARD -- First United Methodist Church, 48 Church St., will celebrate its 200th anniversary Sept. 14.
The Rev. Dr. Gary Olin, who served as pastor of the church from 1984-90, will be the guest speaker at the 10:45 a.m. service. He serves as the superintendent of the denomination's Youngstown district.
Other past ministers have been invited to the service. Members of the church for more than 70 years, and the sons and daughters of the congregation who have entered the ministry, will be recognized during the celebration.
The church was the first congregation to be organized in Hubbard and was one of the earliest churches in the Western Reserve.
Many descendants of the church's founders are members of the congregation.
A luncheon and musical entertainment will be at 1 p.m. at the Brentford House. Reservations must be made no later than Sept. 7. Tickets may be purchased at the church office for $11.
There will be displays of historical interest at the luncheon. Booklets documenting the church history and a bicentennial commemorative ornament will be available.
The Rev. Geraldine Burchett was recently named the church's pastor.
