THE CAST: A unique attraction at the annual Canfield Fair was the casting of Mahoning County's bicentennial bell. Above, Tim Verdin of the Verdin Co. of Cincinnati used a torch Wednesday to dry the core of the bell's mold. At left, Coleman Smith, 8, of North Jackson, passes an ingot to Emmett Hynes, 8, of Lowellville. Children representing the county's 14 school districts passed ingots into a portable furnace that would melt the metal for the bell.
