Ox roast, car show set for Trumbull fairgrounds

BAZETTA -- The annual ox roast and car show hosted by Glenn Christian Foundation Church of Parkman Road N.W. will be Saturday and Sunday at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.
Cruisin' Times magazine has voted the show best nonprofit show of its kind in the Midwest for the past four years.
The outing, free to the public, starts Saturday with a "night before" bonfire and hayride. There will be entertainment, hot dogs and other refreshments, and trophies will be awarded to top show cars.
Sunday's main event is from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Attractions include NASCAR race driver Dave Blaney's No. 77 Jasper Engines race car, a sprint car from Sharon Speedway, live broadcast by radio station WBBG 106 and free T-shirts for those who donate blood. Bazetta police will supervise parking.
The show has been held on the church grounds but was moved to the fairgrounds to accommodate growing crowds. What began nine years ago with 17 cars and about 100 visitors now attracts 1,200 cars from 11 states and some 10,000 spectators, according to organizers.
The church is preparing some 1,200 pounds of roast beef, 5,000 hot dogs, chips, cookies, apples and beverages, all free.
The show will end Sunday night with a fireworks display.
Organizers say the show is not a fund-raiser for the church or any other charity; it's merely a day of fellowship and fun for the community.
Contributions to pay for the event come from church members, local sponsors and private donors.
