BEAVER TOWNSHIP Trustees to review development plan

NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees said they need additional time to review a Columbus man's proposal to develop more than 100 acres along Sharrott Road before they can rezone that area of the township.
At a special meeting last week, the trustees said they need more information about the plan and postponed voting. They scheduled a meeting to vote on the request at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 8.
Ed Barry, owner of Development Inc., is asking the township to change the zoning of the property from agriculture to a planned unit development. With the change, Barry could proceed with his plans to build 92 single-family houses and 32 condominiums.
The Mahoning County Planning Commission recommended the change in June.
The township planning commission also made the recommendation last month but not without reservations. Commission members said they're concerned because Barry's plan calls for the road leading to the single-family unit area of the development to be designated a public road. That designation would make it the township's responsibility to maintain the road.
Township officials said they need to look at that consideration more closely before deciding.
