Lisbon officials establish new traffic flow at McKinley Elementary School

LISBON -- The traffic pattern at McKinley Elementary School will be changed to improve safety for pupils, village lawmakers said.
Village officials had met last week with school representatives to iron out the potential safety problem with pupils departing from the school and boarding buses at the end of the day. Construction is slated to begin at McKinley this fall as part of the Ohio School Facilities Commission-funded renovation project.
Council President Roger Gallo said East Chestnut Street will be closed daily between Harrison Street and Pritchard Avenue from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. to allow pupils to board buses. All buses will be parked on East Chestnut Street during this time, and no other traffic will be permitted.
Parents wishing to pick up their children may do so on Pritchard Avenue during this time. This plan is to be in effect for the entire school year, Gallo said, asking for the cooperation of residents to ensure the safety of the children.
In other matters Monday, the first winner for property of the month in the village was awarded to Clara and Dean Rose of 18 Garfield Street. Councilman Mark Judy, who instituted the award, said it is for outstanding property in the village. It need not be extravagant to be selected, he said. Awards will be given on a monthly basis, year-round.
Properties are chosen by a committee of five residents including Judy, Police Chief John Higgins, Kathy Bucey, Nancy Dickey and Barry James.
It was also announced that the final day for the village pool to be open this season will be Monday.
