AREA BOWLING Buckley-Wilkos capture doubles title
BOARDMAN -- Wildcard qualifiers Bill Buckley and Dave Wilkos defeated Dave Gossett and Jen Mellott for the championship of the Boardman Summer Doubles League recently at Boardman Lanes.
Gossett and Mellott advanced by virtue of their status as first 3rd winner. The team of Bill DeCicco and Boardman Lanes co-proprietor Rich Wilson won the second 3rd while John Kish and Mike Skripac swept the third 3rd.
Gossett led the league with a 229.7 average. Other top numbers for the summer were: Lou DiNardo (226.9), Dan Kalitich (218.5), Chip Helminiak (218.3), Chuck Pulice (216.9), Wilkos (216.3), Mellott (215.67), Bob Eisenbraun (215.61), Rich Gunter (213.6), Wilson (209.9), Jack Kechler (207.3), Bob Smolko (207.2), Nancy Goodman (206.3), Rob Rosenberg (205.76), Bob Cochran (205.75), DeCicco (205.5) and Ray Bakes (200.5).
Only women members
Mellott and Goodman were the only women in the 28-member league.
Substitutes Brian Umstead (2) and Chris Judd (1) registered the summer league's three 300 games.
Top actual sets were by: Gossett (789), Gunter (785), DiNardo (770), Cochran (761), Kalitich (760), Smolko (749), Pulice (746) and DeCicco (742).
Teams receiving special recognition were: Kechler/Turner (high scratch series, 568); Gossett/Mellott (high scratch series, 1,494); Kechler/Turner (high handicap game, 587) and Gunter/Rosenberg (high handicap series, 1,536).
The league annual attracts several of the Youngstown Bowling Association's best. The format consists of six games over 12 lanes every Monday evening during a 13-week season.
