WNBA ROUNDUP Saturday's game

Sun 74, Mystics 67
WASHINGTON -- Katie Douglas scored a career-high 28 points, including eight in a row late in the game, as Connecticut boosted its playoff chances. After five second-half ties, Washington took a 58-57 lead on a jumper by Murriel Page with 5:40 remaining. But Douglas scored the next eight points for a 65-58 Sun lead. She hit two free throws, a layup, a 3-pointer and then another foul shot with 3:15 remaining. "I'm just trying to play aggressive and with a sense of urgency," Douglas said. "Every win is important right now because we need it to get into the playoffs." Connecticut (17-16) is one of five teams fighting for the Eastern Conference's final three playoff berths. The Sun entered Saturday's game tied with Cleveland for third -- one game behind Charlotte, a half-game ahead of New York and one game ahead of Indiana. The top four teams in each conference make the playoffs, so Connecticut can clinch a postseason spot by winning Monday's season finale at Indiana. "I think that favors us," Sun coach Mike Thibault said. "You should be excited about being in control. ... It's in our hands, at least. We can go in and not worry about what someone else does." Washington dropped its third straight game and has lost 10 of 14. The Mystics finished 3-14 at MCI Center, the worst home record in franchise history. "It's been a tough year for us," said Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw, whose team lost in the Eastern Conference finals last season. "We didn't live up to the hype." Holdsclaw led Washington (9-24) with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Coco Miller added 18 points. Nykesha Sales scored 15 points for the Sun, who have won two straight and three of four. Douglas scored 11 first-half points for a 37-29 halftime lead. The Mystics were within 30-29 after Helen Luz's 3-pointer with 3:29 left in the half, but the Sun scored the final seven points on a Brooke Wykoff 3-pointer, Douglas' fast-break basket and an inside score by Taj McWilliams-Franklin.
