NL CENTRAL Pirates win fourth straight, 3-2 over Milwaukee Brewers
Franklin's arm and Podsednik's bat provided the difference.
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wayne Franklin pitched no-hit ball into the seventh inning and Scott Podsednik hit a pair of home runs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 Friday night and matched a season-high with their fourth straight win.
Franklin (9-10) did not give up a hit until Craig Wilson's solo homer into the left-field stands with one out in the seventh. He also gave up an infield single to Jack Wilson in the seventh and was replaced to open the eighth after throwing 109 pitches.
Franklin, tied for the NL lead with St. Louis' Brett Tomko for homers allowed with 31, did not let Pittsburgh to hit the ball out of the infield until Jose Hernandez's long fly out to open the fifth.
Stellar outing
He finished up allowing one run on two hits, two walks, two hit batters and seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Luis Vizcaino, Glendon Rusch and Dan Kolb combined to give up two hits in two innings of relief. Kolb pitched the ninth for his 11th save in 12 chances.
Before the game, the Brewers traded reliever Mike DeJean to St. Louis for two players to be named.
Kip Wells (5-7) went five innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six.
Before Friday, the right-hander had struggled since the All-Star break, posting a 3-4 record with a 7.15 ERA in seven starts. The Brewers, though, are 16-12 in his starts this season and 36-63 when anyone else starts.
Pair of homers
Milwaukee took a 2-0 lead in the third when Royce Clayton led off with a single and scored one out later when Podsednik hit his fifth homer of the year. Podsednik homered again to open the fifth to make it 3-0.
Craig Wilson's homer was his 10th of the season.
The Pirates made it 3-2 in the eighth. Pittsburgh loaded the bases with one out, but Vizcaino struck out Craig Wilson. Rusch, reinstated from the disabled list before the game, entered and hit pinch-hitter Matt Stairs, allowing Jeff Reboulet to score and make it 3-2.
Rusch then struck out J.J. Davis to end the inning.

Milwaukee's sausages defeated Pittsburgh's pierogies in a relay race. ... Brewers' Hall of Fame Broadcaster Bob Uecker returned to work Friday night after missing nine games recuperating from surgery to have both of his knees replaced. ... Pittsburgh 3B Jose Hernandez was booed by fans while making his first appearance at Miller Park since being an All-Star for the Brewers last season. Fans were angry that Hernandez did not play in several games at the end of last season to avoid breaking the single-season strikeout record. He finished with 188 strikeouts, one shy of Bobby Bonds' mark. ... 3B Wes Helms was reinstated from the 15-day DL and started. To make room on the roster, the team outrighted OF Jason Conti to Triple-A Indianapolis of the International League. ... Pirates C Jason Kendall was hit by pitches in his first two at-bats, and now is tied for the major league lead with Houston's Craig Biggio, both hit 20 times. ... The Brewers also won four consecutive games from June 1-5.
