CARSON, Calif. -- Carlos Ruiz scored in the 98th minute for his second goal of the game, leading Los Angeles over New England. Ruiz took a long pass from Hong Myung-Bo, drove toward the goal and took a shot from 12 yards out which hit the crossbar and went past the goal line for his 12th goal as the Galaxy improved to 6-7-8. Jose Cancela scored on a penalty kick in the 86th minute for New England (5-8-8) to send it to overtime. Revolution forward Taylor Twellman, the MLS' leading scorer this season and last, sustained a concussion in the first half when he was accidentally kicked in the head by Los Angeles' Danny Califf while trying to head in Joe Franchino's free kick. Twellman was removed from the field on a stretcher and taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital for further examination, a Galaxy team spokesman said. Twellman also had cuts on his nose and a possible broken nose, according to the preliminary diagnosis. Adin Brown made three saves for the Revolution, which is 1-6-6 in their last 13 games. Galaxy goalkeeper Hartman made three saves, all in the second half. Referee Michael Kennedy awarded New England a penalty kick when he ruled that Los Angeles defender Ryan Suarez tackled midfielder Brian Kamler from behind in the penalty area. On the penalty kick, Cancela hesitated, then put a shot over Hartman for his first goal in five games since being signed July 22. The penalty kick was the Revolution's first of the season, making them the final MLS team to be awarded a penalty kick this season. Ruiz made it 1-0 in the 22nd minute when he took a long pass from Cobi Jones just outside the penalty area, drove to the goal unchallenged and put a right-footed shot inside the right goalpost.
