MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL Ponson wins first game as a Giant

The pitcher had not won since being traded by the Yankees July 31.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Sidney Ponson's first win in the National League was pretty special -- even if he had to wait a little longer than expected to get it.
Ponson allowed two runs and six hits in six innings to win for the first time in four NL starts as the San Francisco Giants beat the Florida Marlins 6-4 Friday night.
"Sometimes that first win is the hardest one to get but it feels great," Ponson said. "I left a ball up that they hit for a home run but I was able to bear down after that. We won the game and that's all that matters."
Marquis Grissom homered to help spoil Dontrelle Willis' homecoming, and Andres Galarraga had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run during a five-run sixth inning as the Giants won their fourth straight after losing a season-high six games.
"We had a good approach against him tonight," Grissom said. "He's got great stuff but we had some good at bats."
Alex Gonzalez homered for the Marlins, who lost their fourth straight to drop 11/2 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the wild-card race.
First win
Ponson (1-3), acquired from the Baltimore Orioles on July 31, won for the first time since July 24, when he beat the New York Yankees. He walked three and struck out five as he snapped his four-game losing streak. He's a combined 15-9 on the season.
"We haven't been scoring any runs for him," Giants shortstop Rich Aurilia said. "He's pitched well enough to win all his games. Sometimes you don't need the big home run; sometimes you just have to keep the bases jammed."
Joe Nathan got two outs in the eighth before giving up two hits in the ninth. Tim Worrell relieved with one out and gave up a run-scoring single to Luis Castillo. Worrell then got Ivan Rodriguez to ground into his second double play for his 26th save as the Giants beat the Marlins for the fourth straight time.
Homecoming spoiled
Willis (11-4), who grew up across the bay in Alameda and had about 300 supporters among the sellout crowd of 42,244, lasted three batters into the sixth inning. He lost his second straight after allowing four runs on six hits. He matched his career high with four walks and matched his career low with one strikeout.
"I faced a good team," said Willis, who rooted for the Giants growing up. "I just gave up too many hits. It's a wakeup call for me to get my stuff back."
Willis took Grissom's line drive off his right calf leading off the sixth, which went for an infield single. He remained in the game but was removed after Barry Bonds and Edgardo Alfonzo each singled to tie the game at 2-all.
Not injured
"We didn't take him out because of the calf," Marlins' manager Jack McKeon said. "He just wasn't as aggressive as he should be and we were trying to avoid a big inning."
Chad Fox replaced Willis and walked Benito Santiago to load the bases. Galarraga singled to put the Giants ahead and Fox walked Cruz on a full count to force home another run. Eric Young added a sacrifice fly and Aurilia doubled home a run in the inning to make it 6-2.
Grissom's 16th homer of the season with two outs in the first gave the Giants a 1-0 lead.
Gonzalez hit his career-high 15th home run in the fifth, a two-run shot on a 1-1 pitch from Ponson, to put the Marlins ahead 2-1. It was his second home run in as many days after hitting one in his previous 50 games.
Derrek Lee hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run in the eighth.
