BOYS SOCCER Maiorano's goal rescues Howland in win over Fitch



Warren JFK, United and Maplewood won.
AUSTINTOWN -- Mike Maiorano scored with 3 minutes, 18 seconds remaining Saturday as the Howland High boys soccer team salvaged a tie with Austintown Fitch.
Fitch (0-1-1) had taken a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game on a goal by Chris Frazzini, which was assisted by Justin Finlen.
Fitch goalkeeper Brent Sopko made five saves while Howland's Zachary Roscoe had four.
The Tigers are 2-0-1.
Warren JFK 1, Newbury 0
NEWBURY -- Anthony Olive scored seven minutes into the game and the Eagles' defense held.
Olive put the Eagles (2-0) ahead on an assist by Brian Cullivan. Sweeper Russell Accordino came up big for the team, especially in the final 20 minutes as he cleared a number of balls out of the defensive area.
Goalkeeper Brian Wolnik made eight saves for JFK.
United 2, Minerva 1
MINERVA -- Austin Dangler scored one goal and one assist for United (1-0). Marcus Barkley netted the Eagles' other goal, while goalkeeper Bryce Hivebuck made two saves.
Maplewood 9, Cardinal 2
MIDDLEFIELD -- Brian Hizick scored five goals for the Rockets (1-0). Jon Arnio and Ronaldo Smith each scored twice, while Smith made three assists.
Also with assists were Rob Booth with two and Matt Wilson with one.
Goalkeeper Jeremy Mohorick made 16 saves.
For Cardinal (0-1), Jeremy Bratnick scored both goals and keeper Patrick Pennza made 14 saves.
Bloomfield 2, Mathews 1
VIENNA -- Jeremiah Necessary scored a goal and an assist and Eric Simpson netted the other goal for Bloomfield (1-0). Goalkeeper Josh Mobley made 13 saves.
For Mathews (0-2), Travis Fiest scored on a direct kick and goalkeeper Drew Himes made five saves.
Columbiana 5, LaBrae 4
LEAVITTSBURG -- Barry Kimpel scored three goals and Eric Birnesser netted two for the Clippers.
Blaine Peterson scored three times for the Vikings and William Dean had one goal.
