NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Artist Thomas G. McNickle will participate in two plein-air watercolor workshops next month at Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave. A one-day workshop for experienced watercolor painters, which will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 27, will include introductory remarks about painting landscapes as well as demonstrations and painting sessions on the Hoyt's Victorian-style grounds. Cost is $65, including lunch. Advanced painters may register for a watercolor weekend from Sept. 12-14. The focus will be on landscape painting in the tradition of the Masters. Day of Dance at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- Register by Sept. 20 for the fourth annual Day of Dance at Youngstown State University on Sept. 28. Participants ages 13 and older will choose from workshops in African, Balinese, Butoh Improvisation, hip-hop, musical theater and swing dancing. Guest artists Dennis Birkes, Teena Custer, Jennifer Keller, Marlene Leber and Tammy Metz Starr will be featured in an informal dance program at the end of the day. Steel City Shows carnival
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Visit Swank's Steel City Shows carnival from Tuesday through Saturday in the parking lot of Shenango Valley Mall, Route 18. Features include an Expo Wheel, which is a ferris wheel that has gondola cars and a computerized light display; and Monkey Mirror Maze. Individual and one-price ride tickets are available. Interactive 'Wizard of Oz'
PITTSBURGH -- The Emerald City is closer than you'd think. "Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz," an interactive version of the classic movie, will be from Sept. 25-28 at Byham Theater. One Voice Music Festival
HOOKSTOWN, Pa. -- All types of music will be offered on two stages during the fourth One Voice Music Festival at Hookstown Fairgrounds, Route 168. Admission is free.
