District will get handicap access grant

MINERAL RIDGE -- A federal grant the school district thought it might have lost will be paid after all to reimburse for handicap accessible alterations made at the middle school.
Schools Treasurer Angela Lewis said she was notified earlier this month the district will receive $26,806 from an Ohio School Facilities Commission grant.
The administration was told by the state that the district had lost the grant for the middle school project. Superintendent Rocco Adduci received a notice in March from the commission, saying the district had never submitted the proper paperwork for a claim for reimbursement.
The work was completed and paid for out of district funds.
A ramp was installed at the main entrance to the building to make it handicap acccessible, and automatic doors for use by the handicapped were also installed.
School officials thought they would not receive the grant for the completed project because the paperwork was not submitted initially. But a representative from the state told Lewis recently she would try to work on getting the district the funds reimbursed.
