COLUMBIANA COUNTY CAREER AND TECHNICAL CENTER
Curriculum: The work-force readiness program is being implemented for disabled 11th- and 12th-grade students to help them prepare to enter a career-path program or to enter the work force with a two-year work-force readiness certificate; students can switch to a career path program at any time, and they can remain in the work-force readiness program until age 20.
CRESTVIEW
Renovations: New football stadium for Crestview High School will be completed by the first home game Friday.
EAST LIVERPOOL
Administrators: Yvonne Trotter, new principal at LaCroft Elementary; P. Andrew Trotter, new principal at North Elementary.
Curriculum: New "The Teaching Difference" reading program for third-grade pupils who have demonstrated reading difficulty will be piloted at LaCroft Elementary; the district will follow a curriculum calendar that allows teachers to engage in dialogue and data analysis district-wide.
Renovations: The district is in the design stage of an Ohio School Facilities Commission renovation and building project and, in preparation, has minimized maintenance costs over the summer; a goal is to break ground for elementary buildings in the spring.
EAST PALESTINE
Administrators: Gary Contini, new high school principal. Curriculum: Head Start and preschool classes at the elementary; all day kindergarten sessions.
Renovations: New building at elementary school for kindergarten and first-grade pupils.
LEETONIA
Administrators: Michael Ferguson, new principal at the high school.
Curriculum: High school modular technology program implemented, mandatory for ninth-grade students and elective thereafter.
Renovations: Construction of new high school football stadium in progress; officials hope at least final two home games can be played on the new field.
LISBON
Administrators: Judy Lana, new principal at McKinley Elementary; Jim Tsilimos and Joe Siefke named joint athletic directors.
Renovations: New school administration building being constructed on Market Street.
SALEM
Administrators: Alice Gunning, new treasurer.
SOUTHERN LOCAL
Renovations: Renovating and adding to the Junior-Senior High School to transform the building into a kindergarten through 12th-grade facility; completion will be in late November or December.
WELLSVILLE
Curriculum: New language arts program for all grades; new social studies textbooks for grades seven to 12; realigned social studies program to match the Ohio Graduation Test.
Renovations: Fairview Elementary School has been closed.
HEARTLAND CHRISTIAN
Administrators: Betsy Lariccia, new elementary principal.
Curriculum: Spanish curriculum expanded at the elementary grades to include preschool through sixth-grade pupils; last-year first- through fifth-grade pupils received instruction in Spanish.
Renovations: New computer wiring, 20 new computers with increased server capacity; all computers in the school have wireless connections and Internet access.
