10th annual pilgrimage
NORTH JACKSON -- The Youngstown Region of the Slovak Catholic Federation will host the 10th Annual Pilgrimage in honor of Our Mother of Sorrows, patroness of Slovaks, on Sept. 14 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon.
All devotions will be in Slovak beginning at 3 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary. Pilgrims may then make the outdoor Way of the Cross. Confessions will be heard in Slovak and English in the chapel. Slovak hymns with the combined choirs of Sts. Cyril and Methodius and St. Matthias parishes will precede the 4 p.m. Slovak Mass.
The Rev. George M. Franko, spiritual adviser of the Youngstown Region of the Slovak Catholic Federation will be the principal celebrant. After the liturgy, dinner will be served. The meal is $12 in advance. Call (330) 782-9126.
Walk to aid disaster relief
WARREN -- The Warren Area CROP Walk will give funds to help local disaster relief by donating 25 percent of the funds raised to the Northeast Ohio Disaster Relief Fund.
Sponsors who provide T-shirts for the walkers will be asked instead to give money to the fund instead of providing the shirts. Each walker who registers will be asked to donate $1 on walk day to that fund.
Registration is at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Trumbull County Courthouse. The walk is from 3 to 6 p.m. A recruiter training meeting is at 3 p.m. Sept. 7 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Couple to perform
AUSTINTOWN -- Jim and Shirley Tubbs will perform at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 31 in West Austintown First United Methodist Church. They have been in full-time concert ministry since 1984. They have performed in 46 states before 17 denominations.
21st pastoral anniversary
CAMPBELL-- Greater Liberty Baptist Church will celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Rev. Olton Johnson Sr. at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The congregation of Morning Star Baptist will be the guest church. The theme is "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled."
August 'Christmas' service
GIRARD -- Girard First United Methodist Church will celebrate "Christmas in August" at 10 a.m. Sunday. The service will feature Christmas carols and music, a unique story for the children, and a message about "Operation Christmas Child." Root beer floats will be served after the service.
Guest preacher at service
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Lydia Mission of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church will have a service at 4 p.m. Aug. 31. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Walter Houston, pastor of Greater Peace Baptist Church in Cleveland.
Annual prayer breakfast
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Women's Day Committee of Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church will have its annual prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. next Saturday. This year's theme is: "Women of God Washed in His Blood"

Concert and speaker
NEWTON FALLS -- The Newton Falls Ministerial Association is sponsoring a concert with the group Candle Rain and a talk by Phil Chalmers on Sept. 21. The event for adults and youths in sixth grade and above is from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Newton Falls United Methodist Church.
Candle Rain is a Christian rock band from Mount Vernon, Ohio. Chalmers has been writing about music and the press for many years.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. John Edwards has been named associate director of Catholic Charities Regional Agency that serves Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. He'll be responsible for program oversight and development, quality assurance and supervision. He's a licensed psychologist and clinical counselor with a private practice in Columbiana.
