Some fairgoers will facefinding a new route
BOARDMAN -- An overhaul of the intersection at Shields and Raccoon roads will not be completed before the Canfield Fair begins next week, Mahoning County Engineer Richard Marsico said.
Marsico said the project, which began about a month ago, probably will not be finished for an additional two months or so. That means Boardman-area residents headed to the fair will have to find another route because the intersection is closed to traffic during construction.
Marsico said the county and the Ohio Department of Transportation, which is overseeing the project, will post signs warning motorists that the intersection is closed.
Poland police close offpart of school lot
POLAND -- Village police have elected to close the front parking section of Poland Union Elementary School on Riverside Drive. Pupils can be dropped off in the school's main parking lot.
The closing is because of the increased traffic the road has seen since the start of construction on the U.S. Route 224 bridge over Yellow Creek. Riverside Drive is often used as a shortcut around the construction.
The construction is expected to be completed by late October.
