Pitt's defense handles offense in scrimmage

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- With three of its top four offensive stars out of action, the defense had the upper hand during the University of Pittsburgh's first intrasquad football scrimmage Wednesday. Pitt's defense held starter Rod Rutherford to 81 yards and one touchdown on 8-of-18 passing and held backup running back Jawan Walker to 42 yards on 13 rushes.
"The defense came out and wanted to play, but we're both progressing very well," Rutherford said. "This is a work in progress."
