NASCAR WINSTON CUPSharpie 500
Schedule: Today, qualifying (TNT, 3 p.m.); Saturday, race (TNT, 7:30 p.m.).
Track: Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (oval, .533 miles, 36 degrees banking in turns).
Race distance: 266.5 miles, 500 laps.
Last race: Ryan Newman was able to stretch his final tank of gas 52 laps on the 2-mile oval at Michigan International Speedway to win the GFS Marketplace 400, his fifth victory of the season. Newman easily held on to beat Kevin Harvick, who made his last pit stop on lap 149, to the finish line by 1.652-seconds -- about 10 car lengths.
Last year: Jeff Gordon snapped his 31-race victory drought, bumping his way past Rusty Wallace with three laps to go to win the Sharpie 500. Gordon passed Wallace by driving his Chevrolet onto Wallace's bumper and sliding past in Turn 4.
BUSCH SERIESFood City 250
Schedule: Today, race (TNT, 8 p.m.).
Track: Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway (oval, .533 miles, 36 degrees banking in turns).
Race distance: 133.25 miles, 250 laps.
Last race: Pit strategy and rain helped Kevin Harvick win the shortened Cabela's 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Reigning Winston Cup champion Tony Stewart, making his first Busch start since 1998, led 82 of the first 100 laps before surrendering the lead to Harvick after pitting.
Last year: Jimmy Spencer dominated the Food City 250, leading 131 of the 250 laps en route to the victory. Spencer battled Scott Wimmer in the closing laps before pulling away for his first win of the season and 12th of his career.

CHAMPIONSHIP AUTO RACING TEAMSMolson Indy Montreal
Schedule: Today, qualifying, 3 p.m.; Saturday, qualifying (Speed Channel, 1:30 p.m.); Sunday, race, 2 p.m. (Speed Channel, 9:30 p.m., tape).
Track: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (road course, 2.709 miles, 15 turns), Montreal.
Race distance: 203.175 miles, 75 laps.
Last race: Paul Tracy earned all 23 possible points in winning the Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio on Aug. 10, giving him a 20-point lead over Bruno Junqueira, who had entered the weekend with a three-point lead over Tracy. Tracy lost the lead only on pit stops in winning his career-best sixth race of the year and first at the Mid-Ohio course, where he had finished second four times in 10 previous appearances.
Last year: Dario Franchitti outdueled Cristiano da Matta in winning the inaugural Montreal Molson Indy. Franchitti won a strategic battle in the 80-lap race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, making one less pit stop than da Matta and crossing the finish line 2.588 seconds -- about half the last straightaway -- ahead.
FORMULA ONEHungarian Grand Prix
Site: Budapest
Schedule: Today, qualifying (Speed Channel, 8 a.m.); Saturday, qualifying (Speed Channel, 8 a.m.); Sunday, race (Speed Channel, 7:30 a.m.).
Track: Hungaroring (road course, 2.465 miles).
Race distance: 172.55 miles, 70 laps.
Last race: Juan Pablo Montoya won the German Grand Prix on Aug. 3, after a crash in the opening seconds took out three top contenders. Kimi Raikkonen, second in the standings, Ralf Schumacher, winner of two of the previous three races, and Rubens Barrichello, the winner of the last race, were gone before the first lap was completed. Michael Schumacher had a flat in his Ferrari while in second place and ended up seventh.
Last year: Barrichello edged teammate Michael Schumacher to win the Hungarian Grand Prix, and their 1-2 finish allowed Ferrari to clinch the Formula One team title with four races left in the season. By finishing 0.4 seconds behind Barrichello, Schumacher just missed becoming the first to win 10 races in a season.

INDY RACING LEAGUEFirestone Indy 225
Schedule: Saturday, qualifying, 11:30 a.m.; Sunday, race (ESPN, 3 p.m.).
Track: Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway (tri-oval, 1 mile, 1 degree banking in turn 1, 4 degrees in turn 2, 6 degrees in turns 3-4).
Race distance: 225 miles, 225 laps.
Last race: Sam Hornish Jr. set series records for average speed and career wins with nine in the Belterra Casino Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Hornish averaged 197.897 mph, shattering the series speed record of 180.917 mph, set by Alex Barron on July 27 at Michigan International Speedway.
Last year: Scott Sharp earned his first IRL victory of the 2002 season when leader Gil de Ferran ran out of fuel on the final lap of the inaugural Firestone Indy 225.
