Cops warn of scam
HUBBARD -- Township police are warning area residents to be aware of possible scams related to the recent floods. Detective Michael Begeot said a state Route 7 man received calls at home and at work from a man claiming to be a representative from his bank who needed to make an appointment to inspect his home for flood damage. Begeot said the man became suspicious because he does not carry insurance through his bank and officials there knew nothing of the inspection when he contacted them. Authorities theorize the caller was trying to steal from the home.
Flood, tornado help
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County residents with unmet financial or other needs due to the recent tornado and floods may call Help Hotline at (330) 747-2696, the Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency has announced. Emergency management officials will be working with church-based and other volunteer organizations that have offered to help with flood cleanup, mold removal and carpentry. Those lacking insurance and senior citizens who can't do the work themselves are among those this program is designed to serve, according to Walter M. Duzzny, county EMA director.
