WNBA Taylor hits 20 as Rockers roll past Sun, 69-52

Cleveland played more than eight minutes without coach Dan Hughes.
CLEVELAND (AP) -- This time, Penny Taylor shot the lights out.
Taylor scored 20 points to lead the Cleveland Rockers to a 69-52 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night in a makeup of a game postponed by last week's blackout.
Cleveland played without coach Dan Hughes for more than eight minutes early in the second half after he experienced a dizzy spell with 17:18 left.
Hughes protested a foul call against Rockers center Chasity Melvin, then bent over in discomfort before sitting on the bench and then being escorted to the locker room.
"I'm fine," Hughes said. "I was yelling and my blood pressure got up there a little. I'm not saying what it was then, but the doctors checked me out and said it returned to normal."
Assistant coach Cheryl Reeve directed the team until Hughes returned with 9:12 to play and Cleveland leading 49-40.
"The assistants did a great job," Hughes said. "Isn't it fun to see a well-played game? That's why I wanted to get back out there and watch."
Move into third place
The Rockers (16-15) moved into third place in the Eastern Conference, one game ahead of Connecticut (15-16), which dropped into a fourth-place tie with the New York Liberty.
"This definitely was one we needed," said Taylor, who was 10-for-12 from the field. "But we still have three tough games ahead, two of them on the road. We're not in the playoffs yet."
The win gave Cleveland the tiebreaker over the Sun should the clubs finish tied in the standings.
"We don't own tiebreakers with anybody," Sun coach Mike Thibault said. "We basically need to win two or three of our remaining three and pray for a little help. We've got our work cut out and have to do it the hard way."
Shannon Johnson scored 11 points to lead the Sun.
"We just didn't match their level of competition in the second half," Johnson said. "They came out very aggressive."
Rookie LaToya Thomas had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Cleveland, which opened the second half with a 16-8 run to take a 49-33 lead.
Sun closes gap
Connecticut's Taj McWilliams-Franklin drove to the basket to start a 9-0 run and finished it with two free throws. Meanwhile, the Rockers went scoreless over a 5:11 span until Taylor scored on an uncontested fastbreak layup set up by a midcourt steal by Helen Darling.
Then Melvin converted a three-point play by making a wild hook shot and a free throw and Darling added a 3-pointer for a 57-40 lead with 3:50 to play.
The Rockers finished with eight turnovers and the Sun had 17.
