Horsemen's group to introduce scholarship winners

CANFIELD -- The Canfield Harness Horsemen's Association will introduce the winners of two $500 scholarships at the start of Friday's racing program. The recipients are planning careers working with animals.
This fall, Gina Orlando, a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, will study pre-veterinarian medicine at Youngstown State University, and Anna Lynn Kellgreen, a Boardman High School graduate, will study swine production and management at Ohio State University Agriculture Technical Institute.
They were chosen to receive the scholarships based on their scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities, community involvement and need, said Caroline Hake, who sits on the scholarship committee.
This is the second year the Horsemen's Association has awarded scholarships. Last year, Hake said, one $500 scholarship was awarded.
The Harness Horsemen's Association has conducted races at the Canfield Fair the last 30 years, sponsoring many community projects, Hake said.
This year's scholarship winners will be honored before the 7:30 p.m. program Friday in the grandstand.
The annual celebrity race, featuring local TV weathermen, will be on Saturday.
