SYLVANIA, Ohio -- Se Ri Pak was glad she didn't know she was pursuing history.
"If I had, I don't think I would have won," she said with a laugh after birdieing the 17th hole Sunday to win her fourth Jamie Farr Kroger Classic.
Pak became only the eighth player to win the same LPGA tournament four or more times, overcoming a double-bogey on the 16th hole to hold off Hee-Won Han and Marisa Baena by two shots.
Pak also won the tournament in 1998, 1999 and 2001. She began the final round with a one-stroke lead over fellow South Korean Han, who won the Wendy's Championship for Children last week.
Blew two-shot lead
She led by two shots over Han as she stepped to the tee at the par-4 16th. Pak pushed her drive into the right rough and punched out with a pitching wedge short of the trap left of the green. She chunked a wedge shot, knocking the ball into the trap. After blasting out of the bunker, she failed to hit the putt and dropped into a tie with Han.
At the 17th, Pak was in the fairway with her drive and hit her second shot just short of the green into the left rough. She chipped up to 4 feet and rolled in the birdie putt that proved to be the difference.
Han, with eight top-10 finishes and a pair of wins in a breakthrough season, was a shot back coming to the 18th hole, also a par-5. She hit her second shot behind an evergreen tree, then punched out short of the green and fluffed her fourth shot. She nearly holed her 50-foot chip for par -- the ball coming to rest on the lip of the cup. She was 1 over for the final round.
Meanwhile, Pak hit a long, straight drive and a solid second shot that left her 92 yards to the pin. But she, too, hit a wedge shot that came up short of the green.
She recovered by chipping to 3 feet and then made the par putt.
Champions Tour
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- Jim Thorpe rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to overtake Bob Gilder and win the Long Island Classic.
The victory ended a 42-tournament drought for Thorpe, who now has six wins in his fifth year on the Champions Tour. He shot a 3-under 67 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 15-under 195 at the Eisenhower Park Red Course.
