NEW YORK -- Nykesha Sales scored 22 points as Connecticut led by as 15 points in the first half and finished the half shooting 57 percent (17-for-30) from the field. Sales scored 12 points in the half on 5-for-9 shooting. She finished the game 6-for-14. Vickie Johnson led New York with 19 points, with 10 coming in the second half. Tamika Whitmore added 13 points and Tari Phillips chipped in 12 for the Liberty, who shot 46 percent (27-of-59) for the game. The Sun led 40-29 at the half, and maintained their double-digit advantage the rest of the way. Connecticut's reserves outscored New York's substitutes 36-18. Wendy Palmer led the way with 20 points for the Sun, who finished the game shooting 51 percent (27-for-53).
Sparks 64, Comets 63
HOUSTON -- DeLisha Milton scored 18 points and Los Angeles survived a four-minute scoring drought at the end of the game to hold on for a victory over Houston, which had a five-game winning streak stopped. Tamecka Dixon scored 14 points and Lisa Leslie added 13 for the Sparks (21-10). Houston had won 14 of its last 16 games. Los Angeles led by as many as 13 points in the first half and still held a 62-52 lead on Milton's layup with 5:06 remaining. Ukari Figgs answered with a 3-pointer and Milton made a jumper at the 4:07 mark for Los Angeles's last points. Houston did not score again from the field but inched back in it with free throws. Sheryl Swoopes made a pair, Tina Thompson made two more, Swoopes made another two and a pair from Michelle Snow made it 64-63 with 36 seconds remaining. The Comets forced a shot clock violation with 6.1 seconds to play, but Swoopes missed a 16-footer before the horn sounded. Leslie had 11 rebounds for the Sparks. Thompson scored 18 points, Swoopes added 17 and Arcain 15 for the Comets.
Fever 69, Sting 63
INDIANAPOLIS -- Natalie Williams scored 15 points and tied a franchise record with 17 rebounds as Indiana snapped a six-game losing streak. Williams also tied her career high with six assists and joined Minnesota's Katie Smith as the only women in U.S. professional basketball history with 4,000 career points. Tamika Catchings led Indiana with 18 points, including two free throws that put the Fever ahead for good at 62-60 with 1:19 remaining. Williams then added two more free throws before Allison Feaster's 3-pointer brought Charlotte within 64-63. Indiana closed the game with two free throws by Stephanie White, one by Williams and two by Kristen Rasmussen to seal the victory.
Lynx 73, Silver Stars 64
SAN ANTONIO -- Katie Smith scored 17 points and Tamika Williams had 13 for Minnesota. Adrienne Goodsen scored 20 points for San Antonio (11-20), which led 47-45 with 15:14 remaining in the second half. But Minnesota answered with a 9-0 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers by Smith and Kristi Harrower.
