SLIPPERY ROCK, PA. Man faces charges in shooting of wife
Prosecutors dropped a more serious charge against the man in 1988.
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (AP) -- A man who fired two shotgun blasts toward his teenage stepson in 1988 was charged with firing a rifle into his wife's stomach this week, state police said.
Arthur Lumley, 46, of Cherry Township, was arrested Thursday night in Mercer County and was charged with attempted homicide and other offenses in the shooting of his wife, Kathy Lumley, 45, on Wednesday.
The couple were arguing inside their Butler County home when Kathy Lumley ran next door to her mother's house to call the police, authorities said. Arthur Lumley shot her through the window while she was on the phone, police said.
Kathy Lumley was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where a spokesman said Friday he had no information to provide about the woman's condition.
Previous charges
According to court documents, Arthur Lumley was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other offenses for shooting in the direction of Kathy Lumley's then-13-year-old son in January 1988 inside the couple's home.
Arthur Lumley threatened to kill the boy, shot into the boy's bedroom, held a shotgun to the boy's head and fired a blast into a bathroom where the boy and his mother were hiding, according to court documents.
Lumley pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and threats and, in exchange, prosecutors dropped the attempted homicide charge and agreed to a sentence of up to 18 months in jail and four years' probation.
Arthur Lumley was being held in the Butler County Prison on Friday on $200,000 bail. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
