Avalon Holdings' loss
HOWLAND -- Avalon Holdings Corp. reported a second-quarter loss of $387,000, or 10 cents a share, compared with a loss of $835,000, or 12 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. The company lost $1.4 million, or 36 cents a share, in the first half of 2003, compared with loss of $2.5 million, or 65 cents a share, in the first six months of 2002.
Avalon Holdings reported operating revenues of $16.3 million in the quarter ending June 30, compared with revenues of $16.2 million in the second quarter of 2002. The Howland-based company's holdings include Avalon Lakes Golf Course and Dart Trucking.
Steel site auctioned
MASSILLON -- The 330-acre Republic Steel site that closed in December was bought at auction for $1.4 million by Sagman Development Ltd. Sagman did not return calls to The (Massillon) Independent.
Bob Sanderson, the city's economic development director, said he thinks Sagman is interested in redeveloping the site.
