YOUNGSTOWN Restaurateur hopes for revision of loan to allow expansion project

City council will vote on loaning $3 million to the eatery.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Anthony Saadey says he is looking into expanding Anthony's on the River with the help of an interest-free loan from the city.
Saadey said Friday his plans are tentative and that he may be able to announce his intentions in a month or so.
The businessman said he was considering expansion in light of other plans for downtown development, such as the proposed civic center.
The restaurant at 15 Oak Hill Ave. is at the west end of downtown.
Terms of measure
Legislation has been prepared for city council's meeting Wednesday that would revise a 1998 loan to Anthony's on the River Inc.
The proposed ordinance would increase a loan approved by council in 1998 from $750,000 to $3 million and drop the interest rate from 1 to zero percent. The loan would come from a Community Development Block Grant.
Saadey said the 1998 loan had never been used.
The restaurant owner got a $1.2 million Small Business Loan in 1992 to build the restaurant along the Mahoning River.
City officials could not be reached for comment about the legislation or proposal.
