WESTERN RESERVE SCHOOLS Board will ask voters for 5-year, 4-mill levy
The board isn't raising the price of school lunches.
BERLIN CENTER -- The Western Reserve Board of Education will place a five-year, four-mill levy on the Nov. 4 ballot to generate an additional $300,000 annually to operate the three schools in the district.
At the July meeting, the board voted to place a levy on the ballot, but it waited until August to determine the tax rate and the specific amount of money needed.
Western Reserve, like many districts in the area, must replace funds lost in decreased state funding.
After a brief discussion, the board decided not to raise lunch this school year, but the price of milk in all buildings was raised to 35 cents.
Class fees will remain the same as last year.
The board accepted bids from Dean Dairy to provide dairy products and Schwebel Bakery for baked goods.
Board members accepted the resignation of special education teacher Melanie Carfolo, who is going to another district. Superintendent Charles Swindler said the district will accept applications to replace her.
Middle school teacher Kriss Yeager was hired as drama coach at a salary of $2,428.
The first day of school for pupils is Sept. 3.
