YOUNGSTOWN -- Auditions for musical groups at Youngstown State University Dana School of Music will be from next Sunday through Aug. 28.
Tryouts are open to students who are registered for fall term and would like to perform in YSU Dana Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band or Brass Ensemble. To sign up for an audition time, go to Bliss Hall Room 2210. Audition packets are available in the music department office, Bliss Hall Room 3004.

Local art at B & amp;O
YOUNGSTOWN -- B & amp;O Station Brewery & amp; Restaurant is working with YSU McDonough Museum of Art to display locally produced art. The first show, by painter Kellie Lambert, is on display through Aug. 30 at B & amp;O, 530 Mahoning Ave.
Opera guild's events
YOUNGSTOWN -- A bus trip and a fully staged local production will be among the fall activities of Youngstown Opera Guild. Reservations are being taken for a one-day trip Oct. 19 to see Pittsburgh Opera's production of Rossini's "The Barber of Seville." The chartered bus will stop in Liberty and Boardman. Youngstown Opera Guild's evening of dinner and opera, featuring Verdi's "La Traviata," will be Nov. 14 in Stambaugh Auditorium Ballroom. Misook Yun, Allan R. Mosher and Frank Cano will sing the principal roles, while David Vosburgh will direct and Randy Fusco will be conductor of a chamber orchestra. Tickets for Derringer
CLEVELAND -- Tickets will go on sale Monday for a performance by Rick Derringer and his band at 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
Derringer was a founding member of The McCoys, whose only hit song, "Hang On Sloopy," is a three-chord wonder that's become the official state rock song and the signature tune of Ohio State University Marching Band. Derringer also has been a member of Johnny Winter's band and a solo artist.

No horsing around
Attention, horse lovers: There are two upcoming events of interest to you.
Western Reserve Classic Charity Horse Show will be Sept. 12-14 at Perkins Park in Warren. Admission is free.
Main show ring sessions are scheduled from noon and 6 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m., 1 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday. The hunt ring will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The event also will include a silent auction and pony rides. Proceeds benefit the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.

South Farm Fall Horse Trials will be Saturday and next Sunday at South Farm in Middlefield. The equestrian sport of evening involves three phases -- dressage, cross-country and show jumping. These trials are a stepping-stone on the path to the Olympics.

CLEVELAND -- Musicians Al Jarreau, Yolanda Adams and Najee didn't perform as scheduled Thursday night at Scene Pavilion because of the massive blackout that affected parts of the United States and Canada. The concert has been rescheduled for 8 p.m. Monday. Tickets for the original date will be honored, and refunds are available at point of purchase.
