GROVE CITY, Pa. -- It hasn't turned up in any humans yet but Mercer County has its first report of West Nile virus this season.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health said a mosquito sample collected in Pine Township Thursday tested positive for the disease.
West Nile is spread by mosquito bites. Lawrence County has had one human infected with the disease this season, a 75-year-old man who is responding to treatment, the state said.
Police drop charges in drug overdose case
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Abuse of a corpse and criminal conspiracy charges have been dropped against Donald E. Lesh, 42, of Cranberry Court, Warren.
Police said discrepancies in statements from witnesses resulted in a decision to drop the charges. They aren't expected to be refiled, police said.
Lesh had been accused of helping Emce A. Jones, 41, of Parke Drive, dump the body of Mark A. McNulty, 40, of Lafayette Street, Sharon, who died of a drug overdose in Jones' apartment June 5.
Authorities found McNulty's body lying in a ditch along a seldom-used section of Lynnwood Drive. An autopsy showed he died of combined drug intoxication of cocaine and morphine.
Jones remains charged with abuse of a corpse and criminal conspiracy.
Thiel looking for familiesto assist foreign students
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel College is looking for host families to provide assistance to about 30 foreign students expected on campus this fall.
The host families won't provide living arrangements for any student but are asked to volunteer to spend time with a student to broaden their understanding of American culture. Students from India, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, China and Pakistan will be on campus this fall.

Travel agency gets grant
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Anderson Coach and Travel has been awarded a $161,792 federal grant to aid in security enhancements and training for its motorcoach and charter bus systems.
The money to improve security for bus operators and their passengers came from the Department of Homeland Security through the Intercity Bus Security Grants Program, said U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd.
The program is designed to expedite the installation of security measures for over-the-road buses.
Cash stolen from kitchen
SALEM -- Police said someone entered a home in the 500 block of Columbia Street and took cash from the kitchen.
The resident discovered the missing money around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The resident said he had $140 in a glass above the kitchen sink, and $50 was missing.
