HUBBARD -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a man they believe was run over at the Interstate 80 rest stop in the township.
The patrol was not releasing the man's name, but did say he was 53 and did not live in the area.
Sgt. Keith Palmer of the state patrol said it appeared the victim was run over by a tractor trailer while walking along the rest area off the westbound lane.
The patrol believes the man was the driver of an empty flatbed truck parked in the rest area.
Trucker spotted body
The body was spotted shortly before 7:30 a.m. by trucker Robert Schueller of Victorville, Calif., who drives for a moving company.
"He was alive when I saw him," Schueller said.
He described pulling into the rest stop and thought he saw some debris off the rest stop roadway. He also saw a rig pulling away.
"He lifted up his head and looked right at me," Schueller said. The truck driver immediately called Trumbull County 911.
"I went back to the body and he was dead," Schueller said.
The man was dressed in dark tennis shoes, black jeans and a dark shirt.
He said the truck driver who struck the man may have not known he did so, because of heavy fog in the area this morning.
A state patrol trooper was at the rest stop just minutes before the body was spotted. The trooper left after seeing nothing unusual.
The Trumbull County Coroner's office removed the body from the scene.
