GIRARD -- A well-child immunization clinic is offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Girard Health Department, 100 W. Main St. The clinic is free to Girard City children. Smoking, weight hypnosis
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Lung Association of Ohio is offering group hypnosis sessions Sunday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, at 12:30 p.m. for smoking cessation and at 1:30 p.m. for weight loss. The fee for each session is $50, which also includes an audio cassette or CD for home relaxation and one year of free reinforcement at any hypnosis session conducted by Donald J. Heart Walk with dogs
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dogs can accompany their owners on the Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana County 2003 American Heart Walk beginning at 9 a.m. Sept. 13 at the YSU track. The dogs also have a chance to be crowned 2003 American Heart Walk "Top Dog." The walk aims to raise at least $143,000 to fight heart disease and stroke in the three counties.

Cancer Survivorship Day
WARREN -- Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital will have its 14th Annual Cancer Survivorship Day from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at W.D. Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. The event culminates with a live butterfly release on the Music Hall's south lawn. TMH began releasing live butterflies about 10 years ago, and since then hospitals throughout the country have adopted the butterfly as a symbol of life.
The free event, sponsored by the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation, is open to cancer survivors, their families and friends.
Registration is from 2 to 2:30 p.m.; an art tile project, with the help of local artists, is from 2:40 to 4 p.m.; and the butterfly release is at 4 p.m. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by jazz guitarist Teddy Pantelas.

Lottery house history
WARREN -- Cleveland author Allan May will be at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 to present "The Rise and Fall of the Lottery Houses." May said the Mahoning Valley numbers rackets were dominated by four ethnic operations -- Greek, Irish, Croatian and Italian -- from the mid-1930s to 1943. May is writing "Crime Town U.S.A.," a two-part history of organized crime in the Mahoning Valley. The library program is free, and reservations are not required.
Regional stroke seminar
CANTON -- A stroke seminar, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Kent State University Stark Campus, 6000 Frank Ave.
The free seminar includes presentations by Canton-area stroke specialists who will discuss protocols and treatment.
Attendees are eligible for continuing-education credits, and a free dinner is included. The seminar is sponsored by the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association; Sanofi-Synthelabo; and Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.

Community drum circle
YOUNGSTOWN -- Forum Health Cancer CareCenters, in partnership with the American Cancer Society, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and McDonough Museum of Art at Youngstown State University, are offering three drumming programs called "Making Music: Drumming Your Way to Wellness."
Drumming, one of the oldest healing rituals and forms of music-making, creates a sense of community and belonging for many. A community drum circle is a fun, family-friendly event, where people empower one another in the act of celebrating community and life through rhythm and music.
The hourlong hands-on sessions are at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the McDonough Museum of Art. Sessions are free, but space is limited. To register or for more information, call (888) 227-6446 before Aug. 25.
