NEW YORK 2 new guides released

Chapters are organized by state and written by local authors.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Fodor's is launching a new series of guides, "Travel Historic America," and the first two titles are out: "The Thirteen Colonies" and "The Old West."
The fat paperbacks (Fodor's Travel Publications, $19.95 apiece) consist of chapters organized by state, written by local author experts.
Features include parks, museums, historic homes, driving tours, historic inns and places to eat, with all the necessary contact information.
There are also lively entries on topics like the Trail of Tears, Paul Revere and other subjects that you might find yourself wishing to know a little more about when trying to explain to the kids in the backseat where you're going and why.
First two
"The Thirteen Colonies" includes chapters on Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North and South Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.
There is also a section on Maine, which was part of Massachusetts before achieving statehood in 1820, and Washington, D.C.
"The Old West" offers chapters on Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North and South Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington State and Wyoming.
The books highlight well-known subjects, such as the Chisholm Trail and Monticello, as well as more obscure ones like New York's Battle of Brooklyn, Hartford, Conn.'s Ancient Burying Ground and Arizona's tale of the Lost Dutchman Mine.
There are also plenty of listings for military sites, colonial homesteads, plantations, 18th-century seaports, pioneer trails, ghost towns, Spanish missions and places associated with the Gold Rush and Indian history.
