BRYANT POND, Maine -- Alice Arlen drove 25,000 miles and never left her home state of Maine in her quest to survey backwoods accommodations for vacationers looking for a wilderness experience.
The result is "Maine Sporting Camps: A Year-Round Guide to Vacationing at Traditional Hunting & amp; Fishing Lodges" (Countryman Press, $18.95).
Just out this summer, the book is the third (and newly revised edition) of an earlier book by Arlen called "In the Maine Woods."
The paperback lists nearly 100 rustic facilities around the state that offer vacation experiences ranging from bear-hunting to dog-sledding to moose-watching, along with the usual kayaking, canoeing, white-water rafting, birding and fly-fishing.
There are also recipes for everything from blueberry desserts to bass dinners, provided by the camp cooks.

Swiss financial museumtakes stock of history
OLTEN, Switzerland -- In what organizers say is a world first, a Swiss company has inaugurated a museum dedicated to the history of stocks and shares.
Based in the headquarters of the SIS Swiss Financial Services Group, Wertpapierwelt -- or Stock World -- tracks the history of shares since 1602, when the Dutch East India Company was founded as the first joint stock company. The museum, which opened July 15, houses a collection of 7,000 share certificates from 100 countries, including rare documents from the 17th and 18th centuries.
"SIS wants to ensure that the history of securities does not fall into oblivion," SIS chief executive Heinz Haeberli said. Although many institutions worldwide have old share certificates on show, SIS said its museum is the first to focus purely to this slice of financial history.
