COLUMBIANA CO. Attorney gets 3 days for resisting

LISBON -- A local attorney will serve three days in jail and 300 hours of community service after entering a guilty plea to a resisting arrest charge.
Carl J. King appeared before visiting Judge Perry G. Dickinson in Columbiana County Municipal Court in Lisbon on Thursday.
King pleaded no contest and was found guilty and fined $250 in costs.
He was sentenced to 30 days in jail with 25 days suspended and with credit for two days served.
Judge Dickinson said the sentence is on the terms King will obey all laws and court orders, pay all fines and costs and perform 300 hours of community service with credit for 100 hours served to date.
On a charge of obstructing official business, Judge Dickinson sentenced King to 30 days in jail to run simultaneously with 25 days suspended, and fined King $250.
Judge Dickinson, a retired Portage County judge, and a special prosecutor were assigned to handle the case because King is well known in the county legal community.
Authorities accused King of punching an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper Nov. 1 at the patrol barracks after a traffic stop of a car in which King was a passenger.
King originally was charged with assault, a fourth-degree felony. Felonies typically are heard in common pleas court.
A county grand jury chose not to indict King on the felony.
