Board considers group's school nutrition advice

NEWTON FALLS -- Pupils here may soon be receiving fresher foods and more selection with their school lunches.
The Community Aligns with Schools Organization, or CAWS, presented its goals to the Newton Falls Board of Education on Wednesday.
The organization, consisting of parents, teachers and residents, provide communication between pupils and the school district.
CAWS is concerned about the recent increase in price of school lunches.
Although the district is comparable in price with other districts, CAWS representatives said they are not comparable with nutritional value of the meals.
CAWS noted the foods should not be kept in food warmers, as most foods become stale.
The group would like to see use of the state's food service with fresher foods such as salad bars, fruits and vegetables.
The board was also urged to research what other districts are doing for better results.
Board members said they will take the matter under advisement and are giving CAWS their full support.
