44th annual Carnation Festival to come to a close

ALLIANCE -- The grand parade of the 44th Greater Alliance Carnation Festival begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and proceeds up Union Avenue from Broadway Street to the Middle School. Saturday's events will conclude with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Rain-date fireworks would be at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
The festival, which celebrates Alliance as the home of the state flower, the scarlet carnation, began Aug. 8 and includes craft booths and a variety of food prepared by local church and service organizations.
Because of the rainy weather, the Carnation Days in the Park portion of the event, which started Wednesday, is at the new Alliance Middle School, 3205 South Union Ave., across from the Silver Park exit.
