NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township Emergency Medical Services has come up to standards required by the American Heart Association with the purchase of a biphasic cardiac monitor.
Township trustees approved buying the $23,582 piece of equipment from Zoll Monitor in Columbus when they met Wednesday.
The mobile monitor is capable of doing electrocardiograms and contains an automatic external defibrillator.
EMS director Karen Philibin said the monitor delivers a more effective shock than the older defibrillators because it delivers it to both sides of the heart and adjusts for body size.
Although grant money was sought for the purchase, none was received, so the township will pay the entire cost.
