Police probe robbery
BOARDMAN -- Township police are investigating an armed robbery that happened about 6 a.m. today at the Terrace Motel on Market Street.
The motel attendant told police that a man with a silver handgun and a gold tooth forced him to lie on the floor, then took an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber left in a white 1988 or 1989 Chevrolet Corsica.
Woman charged in assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lawanda West threw rocks at the house of a man she knows on Wirt Street and, when the man drove off, used a car that belongs to someone else to ram his car several times Wednesday, police said.
Walter K. Pearson told police that when he got out of his car on Oakland Avenue near Superior Street to ask West why she was after him, she tried to run over him, he jumped out of the way and she hit his car again.
It turned out that neither West, 29, of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, nor Pearson, 21, has a valid license, reports show. West was arrested on charges of felonious assault and driving under suspension. Pearson was charged with DUS.
West made news in late June when she was shot in the stomach and breast outside her apartment. Charges against four men -- Corey J. Floyd, 24, of Detroit Avenue; Henry Floyd, 28, of West Judson Avenue; Glen Floyd, 42, of Edwards Street; and Donald Hudson, 28, of Hilton Avenue -- were eventually dismissed, the clerk of court's office said.
Store manager bitten
YOUNGSTOWN -- Cynthia A. Prestley, 46, of West Indianola Avenue bit the thumb of the store manager at Dollar General on Market Street when he confronted her about shoplifting Wednesday afternoon and held her for police, reports show.
The manager was advised by an ambulance crew to get stitches.
Prestley was arrested on charges of theft, assault and falsification.
The manager told police that Prestley entered the store with a Big Lots plastic bag and proceeded to take items off the shelves and put them in the bag. When confronted, she dropped the bag and tried to run out but was caught by the manager, reports show.
Prestley is accused of taking $89 worth of merchandise, including socks, shoes, ladies' underwear, men's shirts, deodorant, facial scrub and toothpaste.
She identified herself as someone else when arrested, but a deputy at the Mahoning County jail knew her identity, police said.
